Cpl. Alan Neel, 47, with the Taylor Police Department, barely escaped from his 2000 Crown Victoria police cruiser after it exploded in flames upon impact after being rear-ended by a drunk driver. The accident occurred Jan. 30, 2000. The drunk driver was traveling 84 mph when it struck Neel's cruiser in broad daylight. The impact jammed both front doors shut. Neel kicked his way free, ran 50 feet, only to turn to see his cruiser engulfed entirely in flames.
