For a company with two of the most infamous and costly recalls ever with the exploding Ford Pinto and the E-series vans and ambulances that had state Attorneys General led by Mary Sue Terry of Virginia and William Webster of Missouri threatening legal action, it is inexplicable that Ford has so far refused to recall not only the police vehicles but also the civilian version of the 1992-01 Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car which share the same fuel system.

When introduced in 1961, the Ford Econoline was available in cargo version, passenger version and pickup truck version. Overall, the full-size van has not benefitted much from the popularity of minivans. Families that would have once bought big vans are flocking to minivans and SUVs, leaving the big rear-drive boxes on wheels high and dry. It's no surprise, either. For the most part, big vans aren't fun to drive and get dismal fuel economy. While Dodge's approach to this problem has been to drop full-sized vans entirely (Dodge's Ram van goes away shortly), and Ford's has been to more or less ignore it (Ford's E-Series vans have been largely unchanged for a decade), General Motors has chosen to improve the breed instead.
