JULY 13, 2001 - Auto giant DaimlerChrysler recalled 150,000 Mercedes-Benz luxury cars throughout Europe and the Middle East to fix a defect that could cause the driver's side air bag to deploy prematurely. A handful of people have already been injured because of the electrical short-circuit, spokesman Stefan Diehl said. He declined to specify how many, but added that they had been compensated for their injuries. The recall affects all C, E, S and SL Class cars with air bags built between June 1995 and April 1996.
