Motion by Tollaksen, seconded by Fordham, to authorize the Sheriff's Department to take appropriate steps to transfer money from the Sheriff's 2005 budget allocation for purchase of a replacement for the 1997 Ford Explorer detective squad to the Coroner's 2005 budget for purchase of the 1999 Ford Expedition in the amount of $3,500, that amount being the difference between the trade allowance for the 1999 Expedition and the 1997 Explorer in Glacier Valley's bid.
Safety - SUV Report - Global Warming - Sierra Club
Detroit opposes CAFE standards, claiming that they cannot make a safe, clean SUV. Contrary to the auto industry's arguments, CAFE standards don't dictate automobile size or safety. Design, not weight, is the key to both safety and fuel economy. Engineering and safety features like airbags and crush-resistant roofs can ensure that vehicles absorb crash forces so occupants don't. Crash-test results show that automakers are making safe and unsafe cars of all sizes. In a standard head-on crash test into a wall, occupants of a 1997 Ford Expedition faced greater risk of injury or death than occupants of a 1997 Saturn subcompact.

The Lincoln Club - Lincoln, Quo Vadis?
In the face of an increasingly competitive, fractured car market, where goes Lincoln? Will the marque that survived the Great Depression and World War II be able to withstand a ruthless global market where more and more competitors are fighting for what amounts to less and less market share? The near term outlook is more hopeful than further out thanks to Lincoln's Navigator catching what still appears to be the upward crest of the sport-ute craze. Navigator, for the time being, has outclassed the competition in the luxury sport-ute market. The product is a logical and sensible extension of the the wildly popular Ford Expedition vehicle. In terms of styling, size, performance and amenities, there is nothing in the market to compare with Navigator.
