COMFORT: It's a climb up into the cabin of the 4x4 Expedition unless the optional lighted running boards are installed. Inside, the Expedition is a modern Ford. Sculpted ovals abound, but function is not sacrificed to style. Comfort, convenience, and luxury in the Eddie Bauer model are nearly at Lincoln levels. The new Expedition receives a squarer design that makes it look just like its little brother the Explorer. From a distance, the two are almost indistinguishable, despite the size difference. The more upright design incorporates an eggcrate grille like the Explorer's and the headlights are more squared than the current units. Handle-style door pulls are easier for hands big and small. Integrated running boards and a wider track give the truck a less tippy look. Smoother, more muscular side cladding helps, too. Larger taillights and new 17" five-spoke alloy wheels on some models also help to reduce the truck's apparent size. It's like standing next to an Explorer but being a few inches shorter.
