The Explorer Sport Trac is based on the previous-generation Explorer SUV, which itself was based on the Ranger pickup platform. Available with two- or four-wheel drive, the four-door Explorer Sport Trac is offered in XLS, XLT, XLT Premium and Adrenalin trim. Base XLS models are well equipped with dark tinted rear glass, roof rails, skid plates (4WD only), air conditioning, power locks and windows and a CD stereo. The XLT adds power side mirrors, remote keyless entry, a leather-wrapped tilt steering wheel, cruise control and carpeted floor mats. The top-line XLT Premium includes monochromatic exterior trim, a six-way power driver seat, power lumbar support for the driver and front passenger, unique alloy wheels and a special center console that features rear audio and climate controls. The Sport Trac Adrenalin version features a 510-watt stereo system, step bars and upgraded wheels, monochromatic paint and unique "Adrenalin" badges. Four-wheel antilock disc brakes are standard on all Sport Trac models. An optional Safety Canopy system provides head curtain airbag protection for the both front and rear passengers in a rollover accident, as well as certain side-impact collisions.
