Those are genuine Recaros, and they are there to keep your fat ass in place should you take a Roundabout a little too hot. Even the back seats get the Recaro treatment, with Recaro fabric covering the rear bench.

The Focus ST is quite a nice car inside as well. The interior design is fresh and functional. The dash is attractive though certainly not a bold or stand out design. The special ST instrument cluster is slick. Some of the trim appeared just a tad tawdry, but after all, this is an entry level econo-box. The optional leather and suede seats are attractive and comfortable with adequate bolster.

A key feature of the game is the "challenge structure," in which players have to win races through a combination of speed and driving skill in order to earn important upgrades to their cars and to move on from the Focus ST to the Mustang and ultimately to the Ford GT.

Designers evolved certain design cues established on the Fiesta ST to communicate Fords competition heritage. They re-emphasised the visual weight of the front bumper to give Focus ST a low centre of gravity and incorporated an aggressive inverted-trapezoid lower grille. The upper grille of Focus ST is taller and narrower than that of core Focus models.

The Focus ST has the suspension calibration of the late, lamented SVT Focus, and the change has transformed the car from merely competent to fun. The addition of a throaty exhaust system caps the transformation with a sound that matches the cars new-found personality. Though a bit loud at times, it at least expresses a point of view that was missing in the previous iteration of the Focus. And that is a big leap forward for this car.

New Focus ST prototypes have been driven hard and fast by Roman Kresta and Toni Gardemeister, who both drive Ford Focus WRCs in the FIA World Rally Championship, along with former British Rally Champion Malcolm Wilson, who is in charge of M-Sport (which operates the official works rally effort on behalf of Ford in the World Rally Championship).
