2002 SEMA Int’l. Auto Salon - The Car Connection
In line with reality TV shows and a repeat of their feat on an F-150 truck last year, Ford brought in more than thirty mechanics who over the course of three days swarmed all over a Ford Focus ZX5 to turn the little compact into a modified tuner as show visitors watched. The project involved products from 25 companies and included the installation of a folding sunroof, a supercharger, a carbon fiber hood, racing seats, audio and navigation systems, an exhaust system, high performance clutch, suspension and brake systems, exhaust header, air intake and anti-sway bars. The extra goodies added around $4,000 to the car's base $18,00 price tag.
Media.Ford.com: FORD TUNES UP THE SPORT COMPACT PERFORMANCE SCENE ...
April 2 -This weekend, the Specialty Equipment Market Association's (SEMA) International Auto Salon (IAS) at the Los Angeles Convention Center is ground-zero for the launch of Ford Racing Performance Parts (FRPP) new catalog of sport compact hardware for Ford Focus enthusiasts. Blessed with a European design and driving feel, today's Ford Focus is the byproduct of a compact car performance heritage that traces back to the 1960's, with the lightweight, rugged Cortina, that later evolved into the Escort RS1600 and 1800 that dominated international rally events. It is Ford's strong history in rally competition that has helped inspire the development of the new Fast Focus sport compact parts catalog from Ford Racing. Since its introduction, Focus has garnered praise from the media for its dynamics, and fun-to-drive nature that has placed it near the top of many shoppers lists (a leading consumer magazine recently named Focus as the "Best Small Car" and the SVT Focus as the "Best Sporty Car"). The Focus has proven highly successful with over 1 million copies of the vehicle sold to date. With such a large number of vehicles on the road, the Ford Focus cannot help but present itself as a popular alternative to the import brands and as a vehicle platform that is ripe for modification by the would-be tuner.
