ford focus turbo kit

CAR TECH: JAN/FEB 2002
Hahn Racecraft make systems for Dodge and Mitsubishi products. There are some reputable companies making turbo kits for muscle cars and trucks, but that market is dominated by superchargers. If you own a muscle car or truck, you need to look up Vortech or Paxton (which Vortech now owns), Powerdyne, ATI, or Magnacharger. Most all of their systems are emissions legal and most systems can be installed in a weekend by a good mechanic. Three companies that stand out for the import crowd are Jackson Racing, Vortech, and Powerdyne. They all make systems for Honda products, and Jackson Racing also makes kits for the Ford Focus and the Mazda Miata.

Precision Turbo Kit for Ford Focus: No Limit Motorsport
Looking for some power from that Ford Focus? Precision Turbo kit has everything needed for a fast and easy install. Central to the kits performance is the new Garrett GT Technology GT-28R turbocharger. Also included is a Precision Turbo high efficiency air-to-air intercooler which features bar and plat, high density construction. The turbo kit also comes with a custom designed, stainless steel exhaust header, mandrel bent aluminum tubing, heavy duty oil recirculation pump, 75mm mass air unit, cast aluminum inlet adapter pipe and an upgraded fuel management system. Initial dyno tests have shown that use of this turbo kit will produce 225-HP at the front wheels on a typical stick shift Focus with 87-octane fuel. Cars with automatic transmissions produced 187-HP.

Focus FR200 Turbo
Ford Racing is currently considering a non-intercooled turbo kit complete with fuel strategies and 50-state smog legal status. Output is being considered and Ford Racing is looking at 200 to 225 hp. Intercooling may be an option, but running a top-mount would mean a new hood, so look for a front mount if Ford Racing does anything.

Sharpening the Focus
The big scoop in the hood feeds air to a massive intercooler and air intake box, all surrounded in the show car by hand-fabricated aluminum. While Ford is considering a turbo kit for the Zetec engine (more on that later), it will not be intercooled, to simplify the bolt-on nature of the kit. The scoop, therefore, would be there for looks alone. Ford would offer the hood in carbon fiber, but it's pondering whether to keep the scoop or not.

Motor Trend - 2003 SEMA Show
Looking like a feature film star car, this Ford Focus by Evolution in Motion is pure first unit, as it has all the looks, but no cook. The engine is about the only thing left untouched on this ZTS sedan. The two-tone Focus features KW Suspension Variant 1 coilovers, Eibach anti-roll bars, and The Brake Man four-wheel "street" discs.

My Classic Car Television with Dennis Gage
One interesting facet of this Fun Ford Weekend consisted of a new racing class that encouraged owners of sport compact vehicles such as the Ford Focus to take their turns on the strip. This new "Focus Frenzy" as it has been named is calling attention to the fact that the sport compact industry and craze has recently dominated the performance scene, and since these cars are fun and affordable, young people are now returning to the hobby of racing. In fact, it's simply amazing how much horsepower one of these little "rockets" can make! Dennis spoke to Harry Hruska of Precision Turbo who told him that their Turbo Kit for the Focus was a major horsepower booster! In fact, he told Dennis that an automatic Focus would gain 55 horses, topping out at 185, and that the manual tranny version could be boosted up to 225 with a Turbo Kit. Dennis also ran into Tom and his rad Focus that is equipped with goodies inside and out.
