The decision itself was a tough one. Chevrolet, unfortunately, went out of the picture early due to their lack of heavy-duty, light truck options, leaving only Dodge and Ford in the running. The choice from there was pretty tough as the Dodge has a great history for making beefy, long- lasting trucks. Although Dodge can't boast the torque that Ford can, the Cummins turbo diesel's torque range starts earlier and lasts a bit longer than the Ford. The Power Stroke however, has a much better throttle response and has much better acceleration throughout its torque and horsepower ranges, in addition the interior of the Ford has considerably more room was a bonus while the simple fact that by comparing classes, the Ford has air conditioning, power windows, power door locks, tilt, cruise and alloy wheel as standard features while these are costly options on the Dodge. Lastly, Ford had some 30 base- model pickups to choose from; Dodge didn't even come close. Off the beaten path, the F250 Super Duty's performance is a bit lacking. The live front and rear axles provided minimal articulation and the truck is a bit top heavy considering its length and width. On road driving is surprisingly pleasant for a 4-wheel drive and a pickup. With a solid front axle and leaf springs all the way around one would expect nothing less than a brutal ride. Not so however, the F250 Super Duty soaks up all but the largest bumps and provides a firm, yet comfortable ride.

One day Michael awoke to the realization that he had sold all his toys and knew he needed a new therapy project. With an Eye toward a larger rig, Michael set his eyes on a 1973-79 body style, F250 4x4 Crew Cab pickup. Before beginning his project, Mike had run into a fellow Ford enthusiast, Chad Washeski, at a truck show in Pennsylvania. Chad had built a later model Ford pickup with a four-coil suspension system. Of course, new drivetrain components where required and for this Michael used California Customs in Hesperia. They stock a smorgasbord of parts and rebuilt many of the drive train components in house. Original NP435 granny low 4-speed was replace with a Ford C-6 that was rebuild with additional bands, heavy-duty clutches, a shift kit and heavy-duty torque converter. The stock divorced NP205 was replaced with a rebuilt married version of the NP205, and mated to a Gear Vendors overdrive unit with a driveline park brake kit.
