Ford Freestyle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ford Freestyle (code name D219) is a crossover SUV, introduced in late 2004 as a 2005 model. The vehicle uses the Ford D3 platform, shared with the Ford Five Hundred, Mercury Montego, and various Volvos including the XC90, and is assembled in Chicago, Illinois. Although it shares its platform with the XC90, the Freestyle is quite different from that SUV.

The Ford Freestyle FX stands a chance of appearing in showrooms someday, in part, because it's simply a version of a vehicle that definitely will - the Freestyle wagon that was called the CrossTrainer in its earlier days and will debut in 2004.

To be perfectly clear, the 2005 Ford Freestyle should not be confused with the Ford Freestar, a minivan that replaced the Windstar and is already on sale as a 2004 model. The Freestyle, which goes on sale in autumn 2004, is what Ford calls a crossover but most people would consider a large wagon. The vehicle is closest in ideology to the Chrysler Pacifica, though the Freestyle offers three rows of seats standard, for seating of six or seven occupants depending on the second-row configuration chosen. The Freestyle and the related Five Hundred sedan are based on Ford subsidiary Volvo's S80 platform and share that vehicle's optional all-wheel drive as well as standard front-wheel drive. Prices are not set, but Ford promises to be highly competitive.
2004 Ford Freestar Cargo New Car Buyer's Guide Car.com
The 2004 Ford Freestar is the best minivan Ford has ever built. It's got plenty of engine power, comfortable front seats, a smooth ride quality and a significantly upgraded interior in terms of design and materials. It possesses key minivan features such as a fold-flat third-row seat and a parabolic "conversation mirror" that lets the driver see what's happening in each seating location. An impressive level of standard and optional safety features will cater to families looking for one of the safest minivans on the market. However, these positive attributes don't make the Ford Freestar the best minivan for sale today. The rear seats are terribly uncomfortable for adults, and the second-row chairs are heavy to remove.
Car and Driver - Ford Freestyle - October 2004
Everyone is fighting for space in this world. Dividing up the available real estate can be hair-pulling work, just ask the Israelis and the Palestinians. Ford Motor Company can't solve this problem, but the company does have a new plan to quell territorial disputes in the family car. The 2005 Ford Freestyle intends to be a mid-size wagon that can host up to seven adults without risking a full-blown intifada.
